ואמר יי לשמואל עד אימתי את מתאבל אל שאול ואנא רחקתיה מלמהוי מלכא על ישראל מלי קרנך משחא ואיתא אשלחינך לות ישי דמבית לחם ארי גלי קדמי בבנוהי כשר קדמי למהוי מלכא:
mlka lmhwy qdmy kshr bbnwhy qdmy gly ary lkhm dmbyth yshy lwth ashlkhynk waytha mshkha qrnk mly yshral el mlka mlmhwy rkhqthyh wana shawl al mthabl ath aymthy ed lshmwal yy wamr
Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”

ואמר שמואל איכדין איזל ואם ישמע שאול ויקטלינני ואמר יי עגלת תורין תסב בידך ותימר לדבחא קדם יי אתיתי:
athythy yy qdm ldbkha wthymr bydk thsb thwryn eglth yy wamr wyqTlynny shawl yshme wam ayzl aykdyn shmwal wamr
Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.’

ותזמין לישי בשירותא ואנא אחזינך ית דתעבד ותמשח קדמי ית דאימר לך:
lk daymr yth qdmy wthmshkh dthebd yth akhzynk wana bshyrwtha lyshy wthzmyn
Call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you shall do. You shall anoint to me him whom I name to you.”

ועבד שמואל ית דמליל יי ואתא לבית לחם ואתכנשו סבי קרתא לקדמותיה ואמרו שלם מיתך:
mythk shlm wamrw lqdmwthyh qrtha sby wathknshw lkhm lbyth watha yy dmlyl yth shmwal webd
Samuel did that which Yahweh spoke, and came to Bethlehem. The elders of the city came to meet him trembling, and said, “Do you come peaceably?”

ואמר שלם לדבחא קדם יי אתיתי אזדמנו ותיעלון עמי לשירותא וזמין ית ישי וית בנוהי וקרא להון לנכסת קודשא:
qwdsha lnksth lhwn wqra bnwhy wyth yshy yth wzmyn lshyrwtha emy wthyelwn azdmnw athythy yy qdm ldbkha shlm wamr
He said, “Peaceably; I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh. Sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice.” He sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

והוה במיעלהון וחזא ית אליאב ואמר ברם תקין קדם יי משיחיה:
mshykhyh yy qdm thqyn brm wamr alyab yth wkhza bmyelhwn whwh
When they had come, he looked at Eliab, and said, “Surely Yahweh’s anointed is before him.”

ואמר יי לשמואל לא תסתכל בחזויה וברום קומתיה ארי רחקתיה ארי לא כמו דחזן בני אנשא ארי בני אנשא חזן בעיניהון וקדם יי גלין מחשבת לבא:
lba mkhshbth glyn yy wqdm beynyhwn khzn ansha bny ary ansha bny dkhzn kmw la ary rkhqthyh ary qwmthyh wbrwm bkhzwyh thsthkl la lshmwal yy wamr
But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”

וקרא ישי לאבינדב ואעביריה קדם שמואל ואמר אף בדין לא רעוא קדם יי:
yy qdm rewa la bdyn ap wamr shmwal qdm waebyryh labyndb yshy wqra
Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. He said, “Yahweh has not chosen this one, either.”

ואעבר ישי שמה ואמר אף בדין לא רעוא קדם יי:
yy qdm rewa la bdyn ap wamr shmh yshy waebr
Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. He said, “Yahweh has not chosen this one, either.”

ואעבר ישי שבעא בנוהי קדם שמואל ואמר שמואל לישי לא רעוא קדם יי באלין:
balyn yy qdm rewa la lyshy shmwal wamr shmwal qdm bnwhy shbea yshy waebr
Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. Samuel said to Jesse, “Yahweh has not chosen these.”

ואמר שמואל לישי השלימו עולימיא ואמר עוד אשתאר זעירא והא רעי בענא ואמר שמואל לישי שלח ואיתיניה ארי לא נסתחר עד מיתוהי הכא:
hka mythwhy ed nsthkhr la ary waythynyh shlkh lyshy shmwal wamr bena rey wha zeyra ashthar ewd wamr ewlymya hshlymw lyshy shmwal wamr
Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your children here?” He said, “There remains yet the youngest. Behold, he is keeping the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him, for we will not sit down until he comes here.”

ושלח ואיתיה והוא סמוק עינוהי יאין ושפיר בריויה ואמר יי קום משחיה ארי דין הוא:
hwa dyn ary mshkhyh qwm yy wamr brywyh wshpyr yayn eynwhy smwq whwa waythyh wshlkh
He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with a handsome face and good appearance. Yahweh said, “Arise! Anoint him, for this is he.”

ונסיב שמואל ית קרנא דמשחא ומשח ית דוד בגו אחוהי ושרת רוח נבואה מן קדם יי על דוד מיומא ההוא ולעלא וקם שמואל ואזל לרמתא:
lrmtha wazl shmwal wqm wlela hhwa mywma dwd el yy qdm mn nbwah rwkh wshrth akhwhy bgw dwd yth wmshkh dmshkha qrna yth shmwal wnsyb
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the middle of his brothers. Then Yahweh’s Spirit came mightily on David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

ורוח גבורה מן קדם יי דהות עם שאול עדת מניה ומבעתא ליה רוח בישא מן קדם יי:
yy qdm mn bysha rwkh lyh wmbetha mnyh edth shawl em dhwth yy qdm mn gbwrh wrwkh
Now Yahweh’s Spirit departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh troubled him.

ואמרו עבדי שאול ליה הא כען רוח בישא מן קדם יי מבעתא לך:
lk mbetha yy qdm mn bysha rwkh ken ha lyh shawl ebdy wamrw
Saul’s servants said to him, “See now, an evil spirit from God troubles you.

יימר כען רבוננא עבדך קדמך יבעון גברא דידע לנגנא בכנורא ויהי כד תשרי עלך רוח בישא מן קדם יי וינגן בידיה וייטב לך:
lk wyyTb bydyh wyngn yy qdm mn bysha rwkh elk thshry kd wyhy bknwra lngna dyde gbra ybewn qdmk ebdk rbwnna ken yymr
Let our lord now command your servants who are in front of you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. Then when the evil spirit from God is on you, he will play with his hand, and you will be well.”
17
ואמר שאול לעבדוהי חזו כען לי גברא דמוטיב לנגנא ותיתוניה לותי:
lwthy wthythwnyh lngna dmwTyb gbra ly ken khzw lebdwhy shawl wamr
Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”

ואתיב חד מעולימיא ואמר הא חזתי בר לישי דמבית לחם ידע לנגנא וגבר חילא וגבר עביד קרבין וסוכלתן בעצה וגברא שפיר בריוא ומימרא דיי בסעדיה:
bsedyh dyy wmymra brywa shpyr wgbra betsh wswklthn qrbyn ebyd wgbr khyla wgbr lngna yde lkhm dmbyth lyshy br khzthy ha wamr mewlymya khd wathyb
Then one of the young men answered and said, “Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and Yahweh is with him.”

ושלח שאול אזגדין לות ישי ואמר שדר לי ית דוד ברך די בענא:
bena dy brk dwd yth ly shdr wamr yshy lwth azgdyn shawl wshlkh
Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.”

ונסיב ישי טעון חמרא טעון דלחמא וגרב דחמר וגדיא בר עזי חד ושדר ביד דוד בריה לות שאול:
shawl lwth bryh dwd byd wshdr khd ezy br wgdya dkhmr wgrb dlkhma Tewn khmra Tewn yshy wnsyb
Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a container of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by David his son to Saul.

ואתא דוד לות שאול ושמש קדמוהי ורחמיה לחדא והוה ליה נטל זינין:
zynyn nTl lyh whwh lkhda wrkhmyh qdmwhy wshmsh shawl lwth dwd watha
David came to Saul and stood before him. He loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer.

ושלח שאול לות ישי למימר ישמש כען דוד קדמי ארי אשכח רחמין קדמי:
qdmy rkhmyn ashkkh ary qdmy dwd ken yshmsh lmymr yshy lwth shawl wshlkh
Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.”

והוה כד שריא רוח בישא מן קדם יי לות שאול ונסיב דוד ית כנורא ומנגן בידיה ומתרוח לשאול וטב ליה ומסתלקא מניה רוח בישא:
bysha rwkh mnyh wmsthlqa lyh wTb lshawl wmthrwkh bydyh wmngn knwra yth dwd wnsyb shawl lwth yy qdm mn bysha rwkh shrya kd whwh
When the spirit from God was on Saul, David took the harp and played with his hand; so Saul was refreshed and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.
